10 things about Indian-origin Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja

Tesla's CFO, Zachary Kirkhorn, has been replaced by Indian-origin accounting head Vaibhav Taneja.

The 45-year-old takes on the role, or the so-called "Master of Coin" position, in addition to his job as chief accounting officer, the company said.

Prior to his tenure at Tesla, Taneja spent almost 17 years at PwC, a consulting and tax services firm.

In 2017, Vaibhav Taneja joined Tesla after spending a year at SolarCity, a solar energy company that Tesla bought in 2016.

He first worked their as a vice president and later as a corporate controller and played a pivotal role in successfully integrating the accounting teams of both Tesla and SolarCity.

In January 2021, Taneja was appointed as a director for Tesla's Indian subsidiary, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited.

With over twenty years of accounting experience, Taneja has worked across various sectors including technology, finance, retail, and telecommunications with multinational corporations.

Taneja has closely collaborated with previous CFOs Deepak Ahuja and Zachary Kirkhorn on matters such as Tesla's quarterly earnings and controllership.

Vaibha Tanja is a commerce graduate from Delhi University, and  began his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 1996. 

He also garnered recognition for his contributions during his 17-year tenure in the company, which included a transition from the Indian office to the US.
