The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has announced its decision to increase the circle rate of agricultural land in the city and those adjacent to the Yamuna barrage. Notably, the highest circle rate for agricultural land, set at Rs 5 crore per acre, will be applicable to South and New Delhi districts.

This proposal, which was recently approved by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, marks the first increase in the circle rates for agricultural land since 2008, said the Revenue Minister, Atishi.

It will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena for approval.

The Kejriwal government has been pushing for an increase in the circle rate for agricultural land since coming into power in 2013 and 2015. However, the process was disrupted due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, the government has successfully reestablished the rates for agricultural land. Previously, the circle rate for agricultural land in Delhi was the same across the entire city, but now it has been fixed district-wise and categorised into Green Belt Village, Urbanised Village, and Rural Village.

The Delhi Revenue Minister, Atishi, presented the proposal to Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday, to which he promptly gave his approval. Kejriwal expressed his satisfaction in fulfilling the long-standing demand of Delhi's farmers to increase the rates for their agricultural land.

He assured the farmers that his government would always work for their benefit.

During a press conference at the secretariat, Atishi emphasised the significance of the decision and its benefits for farmers.

Under the new circle rate, different rates have been set for various districts in Delhi. For instance, New Delhi and South districts will have a circle rate of Rs 5 crore per acre, while North, West, North-West, and South West districts will have a rate of Rs 3 crore per acre. Central and South East districts will see a rate of Rs 2.5 crore per acre, while Shahdara, North-Eastern, and Eastern districts will have a rate of Rs 2.25 crore per acre.
