Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently announced plans to establish an incubation centre at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur.

The announcement was made during a plantation drive and campus tour at the institute, where Pradhan was the Chief Guest.

TRANSFORMING SAMBALPUR INTO AN INTELLECTUAL HUB

Pradhan highlighted the significance of Sambalpur as the cultural hub of Odisha and envisioned IIM Sambalpur's crucial role in transforming the region into an intellectual hub.

He further emphasised that prestigious establishments and institutions like Hirakud Dam, Sambalpur University, VIMSAR Medical College, VSSUT Engineering University, and Gangadhar Meher University in the vicinity would enhance the area's educational landscape with the establishment of IIM Sambalpur.

ROLE OF IIM SAMBALPUR IN SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Union Education Minister Pradhan suggested that IIM Sambalpur should actively participate in the skill development of weavers and capacity building of farmers in the rural-based economy.

He also stressed the importance of capacity building of Panchayat Raj institutions.

PLANTATION DRIVE AND CAMPUS TOUR

The day began with a plantation drive led by Pradhan and Professor Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur. Over 500 students from IIM Sambalpur and nearby schools participated in the initiative.

Following the drive, Pradhan took part in a campus tour, interacting with faculty members and students, gaining valuable insights into the institute's state-of-the-art infrastructure, academic facilities, and research centres.

Professor Jaiswal expressed his gratitude to the Union Education Minister for gracing the event and inspiring the students with his motivating words.

He mentioned that Pradhan appreciated the modern classrooms introduced by IIM Sambalpur, which offer real-time information on subjects to remotely located students while the professor is writing on the board.
