In the ongoing investigation into the Jaipur-Mumbai train shooting, officials from the Borivali Government Railway Police (GRP) recreated the crime scene on the same train on Tuesday. Railway Police Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh, accused of killing four people aboard the moving train last week, was also brought to the recreated crime scene.

Police officials said that the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express train halts at the Mumbai Central railway station for a brief two-hour window every third day. Following this pause, the train recommences its journey to Jaipur, subsequently returning to Mumbai on the third day of its cycle.

Tuesday's recreation operation, therefore, allowed the police officials a limited timeframe of two hours to recreate the crime scene. The accused, Chetan Singh, was brought there under heightened security measures for the reenactment. The entire exercise, along with Chetan's statements, was recorded on video by the law enforcement officers for the investigation.

Chetan Singh, who was arrested for murder and for violating provisions of the Arms Act, remains in police custody with his detention slated till August 11.

The RPF constable carried out the killings in two coach compartments and a pantry car, creating chaos among the passengers. He first shot dead his senior ASI Tikaram Meena in coach B5 over some argument. He then targeted another fellow traveller from the same coach, and shot him dead in the passage area.

He continued the shooting spree in coach B2, where another passenger was shot. The third victim was shot in the pantry car, while his final target was shot on coach S6 of the train.

Officials said that on the day of the shootings, the train stopped temporarily between Mira Road and Dahisar following the firing. The accused was still armed with eight rounds in his automatic service weapon, an AKM (a modified iteration of the AK-47), when the train stopped.

Authorities speculate that had the train not halted, the accused may have killed more passengers.
