Mahindra has released a teaser video for the electric Thar, which, according to the video will be called the Thar.e. This is going to be the third version of the popular Mahindra Thar, which is currently offered only in the 3-door version, with the 5-door version of the Thar to make its debut in 2024 according to Mahindra.

While the teaser only provides a small glimpse of the vehicle, it does confirm that the Thar electric will be based on the brand's, Born Electric platform which also underpins the five upcoming electric vehicles from Mahindra. This means that the Thar.e will not essentially use the same platform as the 3-door Thar, which is a ladder frame chassis, which proves to be a challenge to use for an electric powertrain due to the constraints of space and modularity.

In terms of design, the electric Thar is expected to follow a similar look to the standard Thar, but this is yet to be confirmed. The taillamps are shown in the teaser, and feature a similar design to the ones found on the Thar, but more modern and with LED tech. It remains to be seen whether the Thar.e will be a three-door car, or a larger 5-door or even be offered with both bodystyles.

Details of the powertrain and battery are under wraps for now, but considering that it is based on the Mahindra Born Electric platform, may feature a dual-motor setup which according to a Mahindra release, will have a power output ranging from 335bhp to 390bhp, The single motor versions come with 225bhp to 280bhp output. This is unconfirmed and the Thar.e may features a different powertrain.

Mahindra will also reveal the Scorpio-N based pickup in South Africa.

Mahindra will also reveal the Scorpio-N based pickup, which is codenamed Z121 on August 15. The brand already sells the Scorpio Classic Pickup in South Africa, and looks to expand its international presence further. According to Mahindra, the Oja will be technologically advanced.
