Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will unveil seven new tractors on August 15. All seven models, which will be showcased in Cape Town (South Africa), will be based on the company's new lightweight global tractor platform, christened Oja.

Earlier this year, Mahindra Tractors, which forms part of the farm equipment sector at M&M, introduced Oja as the brand name for its new range of tractors from its global tractor program, K2.

According to M&M, the name Oja is derived from the Sanskrit word Ojas, which symbolises vitality, energy and strength.

The Mahindra Oja will focus on both domestic and international markets, including the USA, Japan, and South-East Asia. It has been co-developed by Mitsubishi Mahindra Agriculture Machinery, Japan, and Mahindra Research Valley, India.

The Mahindra Oja will have four sub-tractor platforms, sub-compact, compact, small utility and large utility, covering 40 models across various multiple HP points.

The new range of Mahindra Oja tractors will be manufactured exclusively at the company's Zaheerabad facility in Telangana. Mahindra's Yuvo, Jivo and Plus series of tractors are also produced at this facility.

Mahindra's Zaheerabad plant is claimed to be flexible enough to roll out over 330 different tractor variants ranging from 30hp to 100hp. Almost 65% of the tractors produced at the facility are exported.

Although Mahindra's tractor volumes declined 3% at 1,14,293 units in the April-June 2023 period from 1,17,413 units in the year-ago period, these were the second highest-ever during a quarter. In the farm equipment sector, the company led the way with a market share of 42.9% in the June quarter.
