Odisha woman dies by suicide in IIT Hyderabad hostel 2 weeks after joining

A woman from Odisha who was pursuing Master's in Civil Engineering at IIT Hyderabad died by suicide in her hostel room. Two suicide notes written in Odia and English were recovered from the spot. The victim joined the institute on July 27.

A 21-year-old woman, who was pursuing post-graduation at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, died by suicide in her hostel room, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night.

The woman, identified as Mamitha Naik, joined the institute on July 27 to pursue her Master's in Civil Engineering at IIT Hyderabad. But within two weeks of joining the institute, the woman took the extreme step.

Two suicide notes were recovered -- one was written in Odia and the other in English. In the note, it was mentioned that the woman was undergoing severe mental pressure and no one should be responsible for her death.

The body was shifted to Sangareddy Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case will be registered and further investigation will take place.

This is the second case of suicide in the last three weeks, as a B Tech student went missing on July 17. His body was later found on a beach in Visakhapatnam and was identified by his parents on July 25.
