Pepperfry CEO Ambareesh Murty passed away on Monday.

Ambareesh Murty, the co-founder and CEO of Pepperfry, passed away on Monday night due to cardiac arrest in Leh. He was 51.

The news was confirmed by fellow co-founder Ashish Shah on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In a heartfelt post, Shah expressed his devastation and referred to Murty as a friend, mentor, brother, and soulmate.

“Extremely devastated to inform that my friend, mentor, brother, soulmate @AmbareeshMurty is no more. Lost him yesterday night to a cardiac arrest at Leh. Please pray for him and for strength to his family and near ones," Shah wrote on the platform.

The entrepreneur was on a trip to Leh and was riding on the Manali-Leh highway, and he shared glimpses of the journey on his Instagram handle.

Tributes poured in for Ambareesh Murty soon after the news of his death was announced. Entrepreneur and podcast host Rajiv Srivatsa called the news deeply shocking.

"This is shocking. It's tough enough to be an entrepreneur. It's tougher to be one, in a category like furniture and building the brand Pepperfry across a decade. Have heard great things about him. RIP Ambareesh Murty. Condolences to the team and family. Prayers for the strength to all those involved," Srivatsa wrote.

Swati Bhargava, co-founder of CashKaro.com, expressed sadness and shock at Ambareesh Murty's sudden demise due to cardiac arrest. She hailed him as an inspiring entrepreneur whose legacy through Pepperfry should endure.

Ambareesh Murty, a notable figure in e-commerce, co-founded Pepperfry in 2012 alongside Ashish Shah.

Prior to this venture, Murty held key positions, including Country Manager at eBay India, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

His strategic prowess at eBay played a pivotal role in shaping the company's growth trajectory and enhancing customer experiences. He also contributed as the vice chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).

Murty's professional journey included leadership roles at renowned brands such as Levi Strauss and Britannia Industries. Starting his career with Cadbury, he later held positions at Prudential ICICI AMC and earned an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, along with a B.E. from the Delhi College of Engineering.

Ambareesh Murty's untimely departure is a loss felt across industries, as his achievements and impact continue to resonate.
