Mercedes-Benz India has launched the much-awaited second-gen GLC SUV in India. Prices start at Rs 73.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the GLC 300 (petrol). The SUV is bigger, more comfortable, looks more premium, and comes with more tech and more powerful engines than before. Bookings for the SUV have been underway, with more than 1,500 bookings already made.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Exterior and design

Visually, the new GLC is an evolution in the same direction as the older car. The SUV now has a more sublime look, less aggressive yet tasteful. The nose carries the new LED headlamps and the signature LED DRLs, while the grille is larger than before. The rear sports slimmer LED taillamps, which add to the luxury appeal of the car. The headlamps themselves now merge into the large grille. While the overall silhouette is more or less the same, the new GLC is actually more aerodynamic. The SUV rides on 19-inch alloys. Dimensionally, the new GLC is 60mm longer at 4,716mm, and has a 15mm longer wheelbase at 2,888mm. The SUV is shorter by 4mm at 1,640mm while the width is unchanged at 1,890mm.

The GLC is an all-new SUV from the inside, it comes with an 11.9-inch tilted infotainment display which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The display as well as the 12.3-inch instrument display comes with the MBUX UI which is smooth and fast, and even supports driver profiles via the fingerprint reader. Features include a 360-degree camera, multi-zone climate control, air purifier, panoramic glass roof, 64-colour ambient lighting, heated front seats, memory seat function and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system. Mercedes-Benz is offering multiple interior colour options for the new GLC, as well as trim options which further cement the SUV's positioning as a luxury SUV.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Engine options

There are two engine options for the GLC, a diesel and a petrol. The GLC 200 petrol uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 258bhp and 400Nm of torque. The GLC 220d diesel makes 197bhp and 440Nm of torque. Both engines benefit from a 23bhp and 200Nm integrated starter motor as well as 4Matic AWD.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC: Price and rivals

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV is priced at Rs 73.5 lakh for the GLC 300 and Rs 74.5 lakh for the GLC 220d. The SUV competes with the BMW X3, the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Lexus NX. However, the GLC is priced more than its rivals in its latest avatar.
