Tata Tigor, Tiago iCNG get twin-cylinder CNG tanks

Tata has revamped its pre-existing range of CNG cars with the twin-cylinder CNG tech.

By Auto Today: Tata Motors has updated the Tigor and Tiago iCNG models with twin-cylinder CNG tanks. The twin-cylinder CNG tech made its debut with the Tata Altroz iCNG earlier this year, Auto Today has reviewed the car, click here to read/watch the first drive review. Prices for the Tiago iCNG start at Rs 6.55 lakh while the Tigor iCNG is available starting at Rs 7.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors has introduced its new twin-cylinder CNG setup on the Tiago hatchback and Tigor sedan, and the two models are now priced at Rs 6.55 lakh and Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Along with these, Tata Motors has also launched the Punch CNG at Rs 7.10 lakh (ex-showroom). With these, the Indian manufacturer now has four models in its CNG line-up, including the Altroz, with all of them now getting its new twin-cylinder technology.

Both cars are the same as before, except for the two 30-litre tanks placed in the base of the boot. This in comparison to the older single CNG tank frees up space in the boot, making it usable, which was not the case before. The Tigor iCNG comes with a CNG capacity of 70 litres, while the Tiago has smaller tanks that amount to 60 litres. Tata has not specified the boot space available with the new twin-CNG tanks.

Powering the Tiago and Tigor iCNG 1.2-litre three-cylinder motor which develops 73.4bhp and 95Nm of torque in CNG mode. In petrol mode the performance is increased to 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission option on offer with the two CNG cars.

Tata says that the Tiago and Tigor iCNG have been popular models, both combined selling over 50,000 units since January 2022. Tata's CNG vehicles command a 16 per cent share in the CNG segment. The iCNG variants of the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz contribute to 20, 55 and more than 40 per cent respectively to the total model sales.
