Haryana

Situated in north-central India, Haryana is the 20th largest state in India and surrounds New Delhi from all three sides. It was carved out of the former state of East Punjab in 1966 on a linguistic basis. A large portion of the state comes under National Capital Region (NCR), having economic importance, for development and planning purposes.

Chandigarh is the capital city of Haryana, and the state is known for the world's oldest and largest ancient civilisations. The state has a rich historical and cultural past and was the home of the epic Bharta Dynasty and also finds mention in the Hindu mythological book Mahabharata. Having a glorious history of the Vedic age, Haryana boasts of Kurukshetra, the place of the epic battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas.

While a majority of the state's population depends on agriculture for their income, Haryana is now a full-fledged industrial state and has various industrial corridor projects. Not only the state enjoys being the country's largest automobile hub, but it has also emerged as an Industrial Technology (IT) hub over the past few years and is one of the preferred IT destinations.

The official language of Haryana is Hindi, whereas, Haryanvi, Bagri, Ahirwati, Mewati and Braj Bhasha are some of the other prominent regional languages. The state flaunts its unique traditions such as folk songs, dances, folk theatres, handlooms, Shisha and Phulkari embroidery.
Gurugram, Faridabad, Panchkula, Ambala, Panipat, Narnaul, Karnal, Rohtak are some of the important cities of Haryana. Top tourist destinations in the state include Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, Leisure Valley Park, Museum of Folk and Tribal Art and Kingdom of Dreams.
