'Aukaat nahin hai': Union Minister Narayan Rane loses cool in Parliament
Union Minister Narayan Rane lost his cool amid a no-confidence vote debate in the Lower House on Tuesday. Apparently angered by Arvind Sawant, Rane dared the Uddhav Thackeray-camp MP to utter against the prime minister. His behaviour and choice of words have drawn severe flak from the Opposition.
The no-confidence vote debate in Lok Sabha recorded a series of fiery exchanges between Bharatiya Janata Party's lawmakers and the Opposition on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Union Minister Narayan Rane drew severe criticism for his heated retort to Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant.
Narayan Rane, during the no-trust motion debate, dared Arvind Sawant to speak against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and threatened that he would show his place if he did.
"Arre baith, are peeche baith, aukaat nahin hai...tumhaari aukaat nikalunga (Hey sit, sit back... they do not have the status... I will show you your place)," Rane told Sawant, prompting the Chair's intervention.
As the Chair intervened and asked the Union Minister to refrain from making "personal comments", Rane further said that Sawant did not have the status (aukaat) to speak against the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
WHAT PROVOKED RANE
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant addressed the Lok Sabha during the no-confidence motion moved against PM Modi by the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A. He said the motion was brought on the grave Manipur issue and alleged that the government remained silent for "70 days".
Referring to the rebellion in the Maharashtra government in June 2022 and the deserters of Shiv Sena, Sawant said, "Then, PM Modi spoke for 36 seconds... they are now teaching Hindutva to us. And we are both with Hindutva. Those who follow Hindutva don't desert. PM Modi called the NCP a 'National Corrupt Party' and they joined the government in Maharashtra".
OPPOSITION HITS BACK
Shortly after the video of Rane's harsh retort in Lok Sabha went viral, he was at the centre of severe criticism.
The Aam Aadmi Party said, "Modi ji's minister had threatened openly inside Parliament using the language of a street goon in Parliament. The MP of the opposition is immediately suspended for asking questions to the Modi government. Will the BJP minister be suspended for using indecent language?"
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi shared the video of Rane and wrote, "This man is a minister. Here he is seen displaying the standard of this government and how low it can go."
