Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of breaking an alliance with the party in 2014.

Speaking to India Today, Raut also alleged that Shiv Sena had proposed Eknath Shinde’s name for the chief ministerial post in 2019 after the Sena-BJP alliance secured a majority in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. However, Raut said the BJP refused power sharing.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also attacked the BJP for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Quit India' remarks.

He said, “What is BJP’s relation with Quit India? BJP’s ancestors didn’t even participate in Quit India.”

In a veiled jibe at the newly formed Opposition bloc 'INDIA', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said, "The Quit India Movement filled new energy into the steps of India towards attaining freedom. Inspired by this, today the entire country is saying 'Quit India' for all evils."

WHY SHIV SENA-BJP ALLIANCE BROKE IN 2019?

A political crisis occurred in Maharashtra in October 2019 after the declaration of Assembly election results over the formation of a new state government.

The incumbent BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won 161 seats in the alliance and crossed the majority mark needed to form a government. Out of the 161 seats, the Shiv Sena won a total of 56 seats.

After the declaration of the results, Shiv Sena declined to support the BJP in forming the government, demanding an equal share in power.

Shiv Sena demanded the post of chief minister for two-and-a-half years. But the BJP declined it and eventually ended up breaking ties with Shiv Sena, one of its oldest allies.
